Description
89/90 South Mall is a retrofit office block in the heart of Cork City. The existing building is a concrete framed structure facing south. It uses renewable materials such as Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) for the structure and timber frame as infill walls. The building is built to the EnerPHit retrofit standard and assessed using PHPP (Passive House Planning Package). Passive systems are prioritized to reduce the building's primary energy demand. Such systems include natural cross ventilation, vertical and horizontal shading systems, and an intensive green roof to help reduce the urban heat island effect. Active systems such as MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation With Heat Recovery) were then designed into the building as required.
